I am doing a study of the characteristics of the Antichrist to help people recognize him when he appears. Here is what I have so far from the NIV translation:
Antichrist Characteristics
1 John 2:18
  • Antichrist shall appear in the last days.
1 John 2:22
  • He is a liar.
  • He denies God the Father and God the Son (Jesus).
1 John 4:3
  • Does not acknowledge Jesus.
  • The spirit of antichrist is already in the world.
2 John 1:7
  • He is a deceiver.
  • He does not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh.
The son of perdition (one doomed to destruction)
2 Thessalonians 2:3
  • There will first be a falling away [from faith in God], then the Antichrist will appear.
The Little Horn (from Daniel's dream)
Daniel 7:1-28
  • Has eyes like a man
  • Has a mouth that speaks boastfully.
  • Wages war against the saints and defeats them.
  • Is a different king.
  • Will subdue three of the ten kings of the fourth kingdom (fourth beast).
  • Speaks against the Most High
  • Oppresses believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (saints)
  • Tries to change the set times and the laws.
  • Saints will be handed over him for 3½ years.
The "ruler who will come"
Daniel's "Seventy Sevens (from Gabriel's explanation of Daniel's vision)
Daniel 9:20-27
  • The "ruler who will come" is the antichrist who will destroy the city [Jerusalem] and the sanctuary [Rebuilt Temple].
  • Antichrist will confirm a covenant with many for 7 years.
  • He will set up an "abomination that causes desolation." Some sort of idol or place for sacrificing unclean animals.
The King who exalts himself
Daniel 11:36-45
  • The king (Antichrist) will do as he pleases.
  • He will exalt and magnify himself above every god.
  • He will blaspheme the God of gods.
  • He will succeed until the time of judgment (Armageddon).
  • He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers.
  • He will not regard the desire of women (is he homosexual or does he just have a low libido?)
  • He will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many people
  • The king of the South will engage him in battle.
  • The king of the North will storm against him.
  • He will invade many countries, sweeping through them like a flood.
  • He will invade Israel (the Beautiful Land).
  • Many countries will fall, except for Edom (Saudi Arabia), Moab (Jordan), and Ammon (Syria).
  • He will capture Egypt, Libya, and Ethiopia (Nubians).
